The Seismocup Building System : (Tom Paulay)

In September 1995, on the occasion of ProfessorHugo Bachmann?s 60th. Birthday, a symposium was held at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. The Author of this article, who collaborated with Professor Bachmann in connection with the development of earthquake requirements relevant to the needs of Switzerland, was one of the invited speakers. This article, prepared for the SESOC journal, is the summary of his presentation.

Cave Creek Viewing Platform Collapse : IPENZ submission to the Commission of Inquiry : (P.C. Smith)

At the motivation of SESOC and with the assistance of SESOC members an IPENZ submission was made to the Commission of Inquiry into the Cave Creek viewing platform collapse. Messrs Smith, Brown & Nimmo were appointed as the IPENZ representatives to provide the submission. The brief of the Review Board was not to investigate the technical cause of the collapse but to ensure that the inquiry was fully aware of the building control system under which the Cave Creek platform should have been constructed.

Coatings to Enhance Concrete Durability : (A.G. Allan)

There has been minimal consideration by the majority of designers of the opportunities offered by coatings to meet the requirements of clause 5.3.3.2. of NZS 3101. Coatings can achieve comparable or superior results to concrete cover. The difference between protective coatings and paint.

Metal Spraying : (Tony Sutherland)

Metal spraying, metallizing or arc sprayed galvanizing is the process of praying molten zinc onto abrasive blasted steel substrate. It can also be applied to concrete structure surfaces to protect reinforcing by Cathodic action. Used on bridge structures and piles.
