Design of Structural Steel Systems for Fire Safety in Accordance with the New Building Control System : (C. Clifton)

This article looks at designing for fire safety in accordance with the new Building Control System, namely the design of steel or composite members and complete structural systems for the impact of a fully developed fire. When exposed to this situation the design must perform in such a manner as to meet the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code for means of escape, spread of fire and structural stability during fire that are relevant to the design under consideration.

Concrete and Masonary Fire Walls : Protection of property and Life : A Canadian Perspective : (D.P. Barnard)

While the concepts of endeavouring to separate personal safety from property protection are similar, the ground produce different answers. Often with Canadian requirements twice that required by the New Zealand Building Code.

Developments in the Seismic Provision of the New Zealand Concrete Design Standard : (R. Park)

The current New Zealand standard code of practice for the design of concrete structures NZS 3101 : 1982 is being revised during 1992/1993 following the publication of the  new New Zealand standard code of practice for general design and design loadings NZS 4203 : 1992. Aspects of the revision of NZS 3101 are discussed with emphasis on the likely changes to the seismic design provisions as a result of developments in structural concrete which have occurred in the last decade.

Load and Resistance Factors for Concrete Design : (J.G. MacGregor)

An overview of the methodology used and the assumptions made in deriving load factors and resistance factors f  proposed for future editions of the ACI Building Code are presented. The load factors are those incorporated in ANSI A58. 1-82.
