Multi Storey Glulam Connections : (A. Buchanan)

Moment- resisting connections in multi-storey glulam frames have been tested regularly at the University of Canterbury. Mr Robert Fairweather tested several different designs as part of his M.E. research. Some of the designs achieved excellent strength and ductility under simulated earthquake loading. Most of the connections incorporated epoxied steel rods.

Seminar on Seismic Assessment and Retrofit of Concrete Structures. : (Principal Lecturer : M.J.N. Priestley,) Comment on New Zealand Research : (R: Park)

With the realisation that reinforced concrete structures designed in the 1920?s and 1960?s are deficient in terms of seismic requirements of existing codes, there has been increased emphasis on retro-fitting buildings and bridges to enhance seismic performance. Many consultants, both on New Zealand and overseas, are finding retro-fit design to be an increasingly important aspect of their practice.

Architectural Precast Concrete : (D.K. Bull)

Architectural concrete cladding has been a feature of many New Zealand buildings over the years. The following article comprises Section 4.3. "Structural Design and Detailing of Fixings". Usually seismic forces dominate the design of both panels and their fixings.

Practical Fire Modelling : (C.R. Barnett)

Development of a number of fire modelling techniques using computers to develop time/temperature data is a new area for engineers interested in fire safety. The paper demonstrates one fire model applied to a sprinklered warehouse.

Over View Paper on the BIA Fire Documents : (G.C. Clifton)

In the following article the new fire safety provisions are contrasted with those applying to established practice under NZS 1900. It outlines the philosophy and scope of the Approved Documents and discusses the significant changes that this will bring to the existing practice. Documents on fire losses in New Zealand are given.
